What’s a kino?

Kino (n) German: cinema, movie theater

Photos are static. Each one frames and freezes a slice of time attempting to capture the oft-quoted decisive moment. Cinema is dynamic. Films combine frames and bend and shape time to their narrative will.

Kinos, as I’ve dubbed this series of works, are somewhere in between, intended as haiku-like images: single dynamic pictures that capture a scene and the action within that scene. I was inspired to experiment with this form by a video created by photographer Patrick La Roque last year.
